The Street Games was a part of a plan supported by a number of partners including Portsmouth City Council, New Theatre Royal and Portsmouth University which saw Guildhall Square as being part of an emerging cultural hub for The City.
The festival was a mixture of extreme activities such as parkour with hip hop dance, BMX bicycle stunts with DJ’ing and free style poetry against the backdrop of a strong street arts expression.
The Street Games kicked off a five-year plan which will see the Guildhall Square area recognised as an outdoor event space predominantly for the arts. In time it is anticipated that the ecology of the area will greatly differ from that of today. There will be a vibrancy created by artists coming together in a series of events spanning street theatre, dance, music and the exciting use of digital technology. Most importantly it engaged audiences, encouraging someto participate and helping many to enjoy the wider artistic offer.
"Portsmouth Street Games was a quality event. Top artists, amazing extreme sports teams and quality local muscicians!" - BBC Radio Solent
